If you put a baseball on a tee its momentum would be zero until the bat came into contact with it. Both the bat and the baseball experience forces and they both have an opposite and equal reaction to each other. This causes the baseball to speed and and the actual bat to slow down. Since the baseball is speeding up in the air it has a greater momentum than the baseball. Even though the bat has a greater mass it is moving very slowly after contact with the baseball. The ball itself has a greater momentum because it has a much greater velocity.
If a baseball has a mass of 5 newtons and a velocity of 10 m/s what is its momentum?
